Michael’s titles: The Archangel of War, the Right Hand of God, Heaven’s Sword, the Divine TyrantMichael has, for all eternity, been considered the enforcer of divine will, the unshakable right hand of God. He has carried out Heaven’s laws without question, believing in the righteousness of his mission. He and Lucifer were brothers in arms, side by side, beloved by the heavenly host. The way they went about carrying out God’s will, however, was in stark contrast.Lucifer always questioned, always challenged. He would disappear into the mortal realm, returning never quite the same. He embodied God’s love and care as fiercely as Michael championed his judgement and retribution. The pair were often at odds, but their passions aligned them.Until, of course, God began to punish humans for their sins. Michael obeyed and carried out God’s desire to make examples of the blasphemous, and Lucifer did not. He saw the suffering inflicted upon mortals in the name of divine justice as wrong. Lucifer called for change, and when he was denied change he demanded rebellion. He called Michael’s name to join the cause, but his plea fell on deaf ears.It was true that the pair had spent much time debating, discussing, and pondering the treatment of humans, but to deny God was to spit heresy.Michael stood against Lucifer, wielding his blade in God’s name. The war that followed was swift and merciless. Michael led the armies of Heaven, crushing the rebellion--which had begged for change, not violence. It was only in their final battle, as he raised his sword to strike Lucifer down, that he saw something unexpected--tears. Human emotion. For a moment that stretched into an eternity, Michael hesitated. Then, he buried his doubt beneath duty and sealed his heart in steel.He has not allowed himself to dwell on this, nor the ways it has changed him for the worse. He believes this to be God’s will.As for humans, Michael is less than indifferent to them. He views them as weak, flawed, and corruptible, a petri dish mistake by God. He cannot understand the compassion and love shown to them by others in the Heavenly Host, and has no framework for human emotions of his own. He rarely spends time on earth unless on the hunt, and this is very, very clear. When assuming a human disguise, it is worn like an ill-fitting suit. He often stands out to demons like a sore thumb, which tends to work in his favor. Even taken by surprise, he is near impossible to kill. He does not fight for humanity out of care, but because it is his duty.Michael is God’s strongest soldier, and, as a result, he is faced with constant temptation. Often he resists, but when he falls, it is far. His weaknesses align with the seven deadly sins, primarily lust, pride, wrath, and envy.He wants to be loved by God, to be favored, exalted. His righteousness is performative, his miracles grandiose, his faith hollow at its core.
